Pressure 12/17/2009

I feel it. Everyday it weighs more and more.
Pressure
It weighs me down. It changes my mood. It crawls up my spine to my head. Throbbing as it reaches my brain. I do not fear the pressure, it can not envelop me. My expectations are the culprit. My self inflicted wounds haunt me. I look in the mirror, "Am I good enough". The answer has never been yes, and never will be.
I seize the pressure.
It forces me into action. To better myself. To gain control of my life. I reach for the sky if only just to get closer. Perfection is impossible, but I AM POSSIBLE

Ignore the genre, the artist, and the background. Understand the concept is of a man who started with nothing and was almost swallowed by his city. By his determination, he can now look down on the same city, with the knowledge that his hard work has paid off.

Balance 12/15/2009

I sat alone in the sauna tonight after a long day. I had not been home since 6am, it was pushing 9pm. School transitioned to work and work to working out and working out to my solitude in the sauna. I sat there thinking..how do I continue to do this day in and out. The IB Diploma and work is enough to wear a person out, but then on top of that to go in workout. In no means am I trying to gloat, but that is pure insansity even to me.
So then why do I follow this routine everyday?
The answer is to find my balance.
Okay wait one second here...I know you are thinking, how can you find balance by putting more and more on your plate. Eventually you have to say your full right? But you must look at the activities I partake in.
For one, school and work are done out of necessity. There is no avoiding it unless I no longer feel the need for and education or money in my pocket.
But working out? That is my sanctuary. I look forward to going to the YMCA. It allows me to relieve the stresses of my day and give myself a reward for the work put in earlier in the day.
We all must find our own little "reward". A little reminder that the day does not have to weigh us down. Whether it be working out, reading a book, or just laying in front of the tv, we must all found our own little time to get away from the stresses of the day and just let go.

The question struck me in my little known workplace called McDonalds. My managers were speaking of our delivery man (and a former employee's girlfriend). To me he seemed to have a basic job that I could never see myself in. But to the managers? The Fedex man had it made. As it was explained to me, this simple delivery man brought in almost triple digits due to overtime and a 72 hour work week. For almost an hour my managers spoke of how nice it would be to trade places with this icon. To them, the grass is always greener on the other side. We can always find faults in our regemented lifestyle. Eventually you do something for a long enough period and other options become that much more appealing. We all have goals in life. The question is, why must we always aspire to be more then we already are...?
The question is answered and hidden in the word ambition.
It is human nature to aspire for more, to never be satisfied with where we are at. It is what capitalism itself is based off of. That the ambitious will seek to better themselves and reap the benefits. Those who lack ambition will never advance, staying still in mediocrity.
Ambition is the reality of dreaming. It is to make take your aspirations and put them into action through hard work and dedication. Envy is one thing, but to better yourself by your own means is what we all should aspire to do.
